A YA Contemporary Haul That Should Last Me A While... Or Maybe Not

by - 09:00

Does anyone else go through a phase of buying lots in the same genre even though you aren't really reading much in said genre? That seems to be what I've done here. I'm reading a lot more fantasy than contemporary at the moment but that doesn't seem to have stopped me from adding more to my shopping cart. At least when I am back in a contemporary mood I'll have plenty to read. Which will hopefully be soon as it's now summer and it always feels like the perfect time to read a good contemporary.

Although now that I've just said that and I've looked at all the books in this haul, I've actually already read half of them... Maybe I'm reading more contemporary than I thought! That means I need to stock up on some more... (evil laughter from me, bank account begins to cry. Again.)

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart

I read We Were Liars by E. Lockhart last year, and forced my mum to read it a few weeks ago, and it was one of the best books I read that year. If you want to cry and be completely caught off guard then this is one you have to read. I am not sure why it has taken me so long to pick up this book which is her latest release, but I am so glad I now have it.

As it falls into the mystery category of contemporary, I am not sure when I'll read this as it's not a genre I tend to go for and really have to be in the right mood. I heard a lot of good things about it when it was first released but haven't seen much of it since so I am hoping it will live up to my expectations!

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

I have already read this and reviewed it so I'll link that here if you want to know more about what I thought. I won't bore you by repeating myself all over again... I gave it four stars and would definitely recommend!

A Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Vertue by Mackenzi Lee

This is another one I've already read but have yet to review. I did like it and gave it three stars, but because I have heard so many people rave about how they LOVED it, I was a bit disappointed when I didn't. Perhaps I didn't read it at a good time (I do think the time matters on how much you enjoy a book and its impact) but I didn't feel like gushing about it or that I wanted to know more about the characters after I turned the last page.

Sorry to all those who love it out there!

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

The only Rainbow Rowell book I've read is Fangirl which I gave three stars and I really want to read more by her. I saw this for only a few pounds on Book Depository and had to grab it as who can resist a book with such a good deal?

This was everywhere a while back so I am hoping it will be a good soppy romance that will be perfect to read on holiday! I have no idea what it is about but I am guessing it maybe about someone called Eleanor and someone called Park but really that's just a guess...

I also really want to read Carry On by Rainbow Rowell so that will hopefully be in my next haul!

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli

I actually reviewed this book only a few days ago so you should go have a read of that to get a very honest but (mostly) spoiler-free review - but don't worry I warn when there may be potential spoilers!

I was torn by this book as I loved it because Becky Albertalli is amazing, but I did have some major issues with it which meant I wasn't able to love it as much as I hoped I would.

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

I read History is All you Left me, another one that got me sobbing my heart out (somthing I seem to do a lot when it comes to books) and with a title like this one, I am building myself up to be pretty destroyed by this.

It sounds slightly dystopian from the blurb so I am excited and intrigued to see what this one is like. Adam Silvera's newest book just came in the post yesterday so I need to get reading!

And so there we have my contemporary book haul! What is the most recent contemporary you bought/ read that I need to get?
